This three song EP elevates High Romantics sound by adding layers and textures that submerge the listener in their musical landscape. The opening, and title, track kicks things off with huge guitars and tasty vocal hooks. Vocalist Jared Hauser sings "I could figure it out / If I only knew how" setting the tone of the record which is soaked in longing and uncertainty. Track two, titled Before the Dawn, starts soft and sweet and finishes with a bang! The song culminates in a ripping guitar solo leading into vocalist Nelson Tift belting out the final line of the song: "What if this time the morning never comes?" The third and final track, California, is warm and soft like pressing your toes into sand at the beach. The washed out cymbals and extra reverby guitar give the song a spacey, laid back vibe that, combined with the sweet vocal harmonies, makes you want to melt down into a puddle of goo. When all is said and done, Figure it Out EP is a big step up for High Romantics, and it is surely not their last.
